The new book, Bucks County Farmhouses celebrates the classic Bucks County farmhouse. Bucks County Farmhouses is designed to help the old house detective understand the variations of the iconic “Bucks County stone farmhouse. With hundreds of photographs, it emphasizes typical Colonial, Georgian and Federal architecture found throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.
The focus of this book is on rural houses rather than elegant country manor homes, or the architecture of early towns and villages. While the emphasis is on the “Bucks County stone farmhouse,” other types of houses are a part of the story and noted as well.
The book pays homage to few remaining Bucks County log houses through photos and analysis that show that these houses were much more common in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century than previously thought.
Unlike books that ask the question “What Style Is It?” this book shows the variations of vernacular stone farm houses that give Bucks County its national reputation for history and beauty.
